Njavara or navara is the unique rice cultivar grown only in Kerala, from time immemorial, bestowed with extra short duration. This is the only cultivar traditionally used effectively in the Ayurvedic system of medicine in certain specific treatments like Panchakarma. It is interesting to note that this treatment is now getting more and more popular, not only in this region of the country but also in other parts of the nation and even in other countries

Njavara as a special cereal, having properties to rectify the basic ills affecting the circulatory, respiratory as well as the digestive system. Black glumed Njavara has been used in Ayurveda treatment from the age of Charaka-ie, BC.600.

Njavara Kizhi and Njavara Theppu are two major treatment in Ayurveda in conditions of Arthritis, Paralysis, Neurological complaints, Degeneration of muscles, Tuberculosis, for children with Anemia, for women during lactation, in certain ulcers, skin diseases – Njavara has applications in all these indications. Njavara is a health food for people of all ages.

How To Use

Take 2 teaspoon of navara rice powder in cooking bowl. Pour one cup of milk or drinking water, use any of them as per your choice. Switch on the flame and keep it on a low medium level, stir it well and boil it to make a mixture. Add some jaggery for sweet taste, cook it on sim.stir it well until the mixture forms a thick porridge. Once it is ready, switch off the flame and allow it to cool. Serve it within half an hour.
